In the name of Allah the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Mistakes are an inevitable part of being human, and we often find ourselves slipping up because perfection is beyond our reach. I believe this is why our Lord, the Most Merciful, continually reminds us not to despair when we have wronged ourselves and to never lose hope in His mercy.
“Verily, Allah loves those who repent and those who purify themselves”
[Al-bakarah 2:222]
Say, “O my servants who have transgressed against themselves(by sinning), do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. And it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
[Az-zumar 39:53]
However, a recent incident prompted me to pause and remind myself, "Yes, Kubrah, we will make mistakes and learn from them, but let's strive to avoid those mistakes that lead to lifelong regrets." Imagine carrying the weight of a mistake that haunts you even in old age—one that fills you with guilt and makes you question your worth. That kind of self-loathing is a heavy burden to bear.
I know “Shaytan no dey rest”, constantly trying to lead us astray, but before making any decisions that could jeopardize your dunya (worldly life) and akhira (afterlife), please take a moment to reflect. Life-changing mistakes rarely happen overnight—they accumulate over time. So, make it a habit to reflect on your day. Be honest with yourself, and surround yourself with good people—those who care enough to call you out when you're veering off course.
“To be alone means that you avoid bad company. But to have a true friend is better than being alone.”
[Umar ibn Khattab(RA)]
May Allah continue to guide us on our journey in this dunya. May He protect us from mistakes that rob us of peace, and may we be among those who constantly turn to Him for forgiveness.
